Lauren’s journey is a shining example of the power of determination, academic excellence, and a deep-seated passion for healthcare and changing patients lives. From her early days as a driven post-baccalaureate student at the University of Pennsylvania, to ultimately her achievement of a Master’s of Physician Assisting from Mercy College in New York, Lauren has spent years building a foundation of education and skillfully transforming it into her noteworthy ability to provide compassionate and effective care to her patients.
After dedicating 13 years to her role as a physician assistant in dermatology, Lauren is embarking on a purposeful transition to channel her expertise toward the focused treatment of healing thyroid disorders at Modern Thyroid Clinic. Lauren’s empathetic nature and ability to translate complex medical concepts bridged the gap between external vitality and internal health.
Lauren is guided by her commitment to excellence, honed diagnostic and procedural skills, and nurtured compassionate patient interactions. Lauren’s roots in dermatology and endocrinology taught her that treating the thyroid far extended beyond medical interventions, encompassing lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, and emotional support.
When Lauren is not immersed in the world of healthcare, she finds joy in the simple pleasures of life and being outside enjoying nature. One of her greatest passions is spending time with her family traveling and sharing outdoor adventures from the beach to the mountains.
McCall McPherson is the founder and visionary of Modern Thyroid Clinic and the owner of Thyroid Nation, a large thyroid advocacy platform. She is a Physician Assistant, a TEDx speaker, and a thyroid expert by way of being a thyroid patient. She has been a featured guest on numerous podcasts, documentaries, and summits discussing various topics on thyroid and hormone issues. Her passion for perfecting thyroid treatment stemmed from years of suffering due to the mismanagement of her own hypothyroidism. Now she lives, breathes, and thrives in understanding the nuances of proper thyroid care. Her philosophy is simple: There is no reason to still have thyroid symptoms.
She ended up in this fascinating niche of medicine for a few reasons. The most profound was her own case of hypothyroidism that she could not get managed and left her almost non-functional for most of a year. Repeatedly she went to her doctor begging for help, asking that he look deeper than her TSH, which was “normal”. He refused to do more testing despite her being only 27 years old at the time and literally going to bed at 3:30 in the afternoon, not to mention having almost every last symptom of hypothyroidism. It wasn’t until she learned that thyroid disorders are much more complex to diagnose and treat than a simple TSH and a quick Levothyroxine script that she got her life back. Years later, for obvious reasons, her passion runs deep for solving people’s thyroid problems; it is her life’s calling.
Professionally speaking, she is a licensed and nationally certified Physician Assistant with prescriptive authority. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She then packed up her bags and moved to New York City to earn a Master’s Degree as well as an additional Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Mercy. She began pursuing her passion for integrative and functional medicine in 2012/2013. McCall loves and lives in Austin, Texas with her (very large) family. In her free time, she enjoys exercise, live music, spending time outdoors, and traveling.
Laurie graduated from Kansas State University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Nutrition, cum laude. After moving to Texas with her husband, she received her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in 2005. She began her career at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston as a Physician Assistant in reconstructive plastic surgery where she had the honor of participating in life-renewing surgery and patient care. It was at this time that Laurie began to appreciate what could be achieved when one looks beyond the boundaries of traditional medicine.
In a move overseas, living as an expat in Australia, Laurie gained renewed appreciation for active lifestyles, personal health, and clean nutrition through easy access to local, organic foods, a strong wellness and fitness culture, and a population more open to non-traditional means of combating illness and hardship. Seeking a path by which she could apply this experience and mindset, she accepted a clinical role in gastroenterology in 2016. While working in GI, Laurie found great satisfaction in finding the root cause of ailments, often after patients had experienced years of symptoms. She deepened her knowledge as a functional and progressive practitioner in the areas of gut health, micronutrient testing, food sensitivity testing, and treatment protocols, nutritional enhancements, and diet coaching.
Inspired by the results achieved from physiotherapy, Laurie also received her Certificate in Dry Needling in 2021. Laurie continues to expand her knowledge and understanding of the impacts a western society and hurried culture can have on the health and well-being of her family, friends, and patients. She believes strongly in self-advocacy in medicine, the limited mindset of some areas of traditional medicine, and the need for individualized, patient-centered care. She has witnessed the dismissal of her close friends by their doctors with their thyroid struggles.
Laurie enjoys traveling with her children and husband, reading, and recreational CrossFit.
Yari graduated from Texas A&M University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She received her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2005. She worked in the fields of neurosurgery and pain management before transitioning to functional medicine, specifically thyroid treatment, after she attended a life-changing education conference on hormones two years ago.
During the conference, she experienced a total paradigm shift in how she viewed the current medical model of care, especially the treatment and management of thyroid and hormone dysfunction. Yari went from accepting the status quo recommendations and guidelines to challenging what she had been taught and exploring treatment options that addressed the root cause of a condition. Once she began implementing these changes in her practice, she saw firsthand the profound impact such treatments can have on a patient’s quality of life. Yari is excited to work with each of her patients to achieve their health and wellness goals.
Yari lives in Austin with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys reading, running and hiking the Greenbelt with her girls.
Melody graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin. She then went on to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing, also from the University of Texas, and became a certified Family Nurse Practitioner in 2014. After completing her bachelor’s degree, Melody worked for five years at Dell Seton Medical Center. She has since spent the last five years working in primary care with a focus on thyroid disorders and hormone imbalances.
Melody’s personal journey with her thyroid began when she was an 18-year-old freshman in college. At that time, she started experiencing overwhelming fatigue, brain fog, and sleep disruption. Despite being dismissed as “just a tired college student,” she persisted in pursuing her own healthcare. Finally, after delving deeper into her own health, she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s. Melody has since spent the last 17 years developing her passion for helping others who are suffering the way she was and sharing with them what she’s learned about thyroid and hormone support, not only as a clinician, but also as a patient herself.
Melody’s philosophy is simple – no two patients are alike. While thyroid and adrenal hormones impact every cell in the body and cause a myriad of symptoms when unbalanced, patients often have their own unique set of symptoms. When a person is unwell, their whole life can unravel, which affects more than just a set of labs or their symptoms. Often, the underlying core of the entire person’s wellbeing is affected. Melody is committed to treating her patients as individuals, not just a set of one-size-fits-all lab results. She works with each one to achieve optimal hormone levels leading to a life of overall wellness and balance.
Melody and her family reside in Austin. She enjoys spending time outdoors, running, reading, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
Hayley was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 2004. Her professional career began in the field of education where she taught various disciplines for nearly ten years. Prior to having children, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 28. This forced her to develop a treatment plan that addressed the root cause of her diagnosis while preserving her ability to have children and ensuring many more years of health and happiness. Shockingly, she discovered that these were not the priorities of typical treatment protocols, and she realized she would have to seek out brave practitioners willing to offer options outside the bounds of traditional Western practices. Thus began her journey into the world of wellness and functional medicine. Having been cancer-free for over nine years and the proud mother of a three-year-old son, she has dedicated her career to using the knowledge and resources she has obtained to help others navigate their own story of healing.

Hillary graduated from Texas Tech University is 2013 with her BSN. After working in the CV/CICU for 6 months, she quickly realized being a nurse practitioner was the route she needed to go. She proceeded to get her Masters’s and Doctorate in Nursing from George Washington University and never looked back. She has worked in the fields of cardiology, orthopedic surgery, and family practice before deciding to transition into the world of integrative/functional medicine and specialty thyroid management after going through her own journey with Hashimoto’s.
She was drawn to the hormone and thyroid world immediately after graduating from NP school and didn’t realize then that she would have a call placed on her life to help women and men get their life back from debilitating thyroid conditions. After a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism in 2021, her viewpoint of thyroid management drastically shifted. Getting the diagnosis was only a piece of the puzzle, an important piece no doubt. But, finding someone to help her truly take on the task of getting healthy was a totally different journey. After being told “you’re on medicine, you’re fine”, she began to realize that patients all over the country are being told those exact words and set her mind to helping as many patients never have to hear those same exact words. Hillary believes in meeting you where you are in life, wherever that may be. She wants you to know that you’re not alone in this journey. Her desire is to help her patients become free from their thyroid condition so they can live the life they deserve. She is committed to seeing you as a person and encouraging you every step of the way, while also helping you see that there is life outside of hypothyroidism. Hillary lives in Lubbock, TX with her husband, daughter, and two dogs. She’s a proud Red Raider and you can often find her cheering them on in any sporting event. She is exciting to come on with Modern Thyroid Clinic and help patients all over the country get their life back.
